Surgery: Ileostomy
More Info: I've had crohns since I was 6 years old but it didn't
get diagnosed until I was 10. Since then I have been
in and out of the hospital many times and on almost
every medication for crohns, but I really didn't want
to have ostomy surgery even though the dr's kept
telling me that it would make me feel better.
Then, in december of 98 I got really sick and
didn't have a choice about surgery, so, now I'm trying
to learn more about it since this is all very new. I'd
love to hear from anyone in a similar situation.

Only difference is Iīm getting all

IBD: Ulcerative Colitis
Surgery: Ileostomy
Medication: Indocid
More Info: In 1986 I was diagnosed
with a condition called Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) which affects the major
joints of my body, especially the spine. With this come complications,
such as IBD and uveitis (inflammation of the eye). I had a swift, but severe
attack of UC in 1989 which resulted in my acquiring my stoma, "Willie"
from an ileostomy. Since then I have also had a hip replacement, further
surgery due to adhesions in the small intestine and I am now about to undergo
removal of a cataract that was caused by treatment of the uveitis! I would
be interested in hearing from any ostomates, anyone who has IBD, uveitis
or AS.

Surgery: Ileostomy
More Info: Hi my name is Anne and
I have had an ileostomy since I was 35 years old ( I am now 48). I suffered
for years from Crohn's and was in and out of hospitals and on numerous
drugs for the disease all during my 20's. At one time they had me on 22
pills a day and I was still sick and suffering also from side affects from
all the medications. Since the surgery, I have not been on any such drugs
and have resumed a normal and active life. This is not to say I didn't
suffer through a major adjustment after the surgery. I was VERY vain about
my appearance and my new body image didn't please me at all. However, after
I started feeling good and was able to live my life free from that horrible
disease, I didn't worry so much about it--I just learned some tricks to
deal with it. My doctor said I wear the tightest jeans he has ever seen
and no one can tell I wear an appliance! Anyone who would like to talk
to me about Crohn's or an ileostomy, please feel free to contact me with
questions or just to chat. I have many
stories I can share with you!

More Info: I am a divorced mom
of two boys, one is 18 and at Washington U. in St. Louis, Missouri. The
other is 10 and in 4th grade. I have had diagnosed Crohn's Disease for
25 yrs (since I was 19). I am the only Director in Nebraska for a great
archival scrapbook company known as Creative Memories. I work out of my
home. Interestingly enough, I told my 10 yr. old that when I reach Senior
Director status, I will treat him to a trip to Australia. Maybe we will
come visit you, Shaz! (Feel free - anytime! - Shaz)
I have a great sense of humor which has
gotten me through many rough times. My gastroent. said he had never seen
anyone with as bad a case of Crohn's as I have go so long without an ileo.
I am astounded by you young people who seem to cope so well with your stomas,
etc. I find it tough after 5 months at my ripe old age. I love photos and
memerabilia and that's why I work for CM. I hate to cook- half the time
I couldn't eat, anyway. I can eat fine, now, but am not sure for how long.
I really thought that my troubles with Crohn's were over after the ileo,
but have been informed that I may be in for more problems. We will see.

More Info: I had a "temporary"
ileostomy upon the total removal of my colon, due to UC, in 1990. Then
the doctors decided cancer was around the corner, so they cut out the "stump"
in 1991, so here I am: an "8 year old" permanent ileostomate. I have been
through the ringer with everything from skin diseases to hernias, and I
have a few war stories to share, and would be happy to with anyone who
would like to have another person's perspective.
